Stunning. I wish I could ride on these great trains. Sadly Norway really lacks good train routes.

Just about perfect. Though yours is in color, it puts me in mind of the splendid railroad b/w photo work of O. Winston Link.

I'll be in the UK September 2010-June 2011 for a year of study abroad, and one of my plans is to tour around the different regions and ride the heritage railways (Great Central, Bluebell, Snowdon, etc.).

Yep, and the tail end of the train for the return trip. Too bad the engine was running backwards, but it's barely noticeable on camera when you're 7 cars away.

Indeed, there is talk of putting a turntable in at Mallaig so that the locos can face chimney first in both directions, but there has been talk of doing this for about 30 years.... :p

I didn't mind. I can't see how the crew could really care since "forward" visibility isn't much better than the view past the tender... (^_^)

The only real issue is you get a lot of coal dust blowing onto the footplate when running tender first.
Have a good trip on the West Highland Line then?
Which loco did you have?

I've never understood that, do they just see: "Steam train" + "Coaches"? Because they must be able to see the difference between the Hall from the movie and this...

Well you would have thought so wouldn't you, not least because the Hall is red and the five is black. But clearly we underestimate the intelligence of average Joe :p
